this place is dead so i figured it'd be ok to post this for anyone who is interested.

CritterxChange is up.

Right now we are still working some things out but we need more members before we can start doing rounds.
The point of the community is that everyone submits an original species of their own, and each round you will secretly be paired up with someone else's species to draw. An 'original species' is anything you have made up, so its not specifically about big scary monsters!

So please join and pass the word around. (:

A piece I did recently as a commission for someone. Yeah not a particularly inventive monster but still, yay werewolves.

Here's a new drawing. It's got an enormous vaguely human-headed spider crab, a big rotting rat-dog with a strange halo, and a winged humanoid who looks a little like they have harlequin ichthyosis (that last one might not be as monstrous as the other two, but since it's also the smallest in the picture, hopefully that's okay).

There isn't anything particularly explicit in the drawing, but to be on the safe side, this might be NSFW. It's also a pretty big image.

Greets, all. You do some excellent colouring. Yes, you. Meanwhile, I. I do not. So if you've got some time to kill, I need help figuring out a basic colour scheme for my pet doodle. Which is still very rough, apologies.

Additionally: anyone here draw to a particular kind of music? Boards of Canada got me to pick up my tablet again after months and months, and is also making me add feathers to things. HM.

I'm not sure if this community is dead, but anyways, here's a recent monster of mine.
He has three tongues, no eyes, and looks a little bit like a blue artichoke.

So thanks to everyone who gave feedback in the last entry! So now that I've gotton some poll results I've made some decisions about the monster art exchange.

First of all, it will be moved to monster_xchange. I believe this will make things easier for everybody, and I'll have it up and running by Dec. 28th. The application will be moderated. If you have already been accepted here, you do not have to apply again. If you were denied in the past, feel free to app again. To make things more active, the exchange will be monthly. I STILL NEED MOD VOLUNTEERS. (Korth if you're sure you'd be up to it/ still interested comment plz)

Details on how the exchange is run (stuff like blacklisting, adopting, deadlines, etc) will be discussed between me and any other moderators.

And I still have a question that I will ask in POLL FORM because that's easy for everyone. But feel free to make comments :O

Would refined sketches be acceptable in the exchange, or should it be finished work only?

refined sketches as a bare minimum requirement are okay (would be for people who want to participate/short on time)
Finished work only

I'm sure all of you can tell the difference between a refined sketch and a finished piece of work, yes? If you're confused I would consider a refined sketch to be fairly neat with few gestural lines (obv. some would be okay to indicate movement/whatever), some shading/indication of shading, maybe some flat color at the very least. Those of you who know of anthrosketchxch Should know what I'm talking about. This way if people had the time to finish it, they could but if they're busy they can still participate without over loading themselves.

However, this is totally up to you guys, because I know some people sign up for exchanges just because "omfg, free art" and just throw in a doodle for their half (which is another reason apps. are moderated, helps control this) which is unfair. Requiring "finished" art might make people feel the exchange was more "equal" and ensure no one felt cheated. But on the flip side of that, it puts more pressure on participants and may lower the turnout rate.

Wow, that was a lot of rambling... so as a peace offering
have some monster art!Collapse )

SO you know what would be awesome? Another monster exchange, THAT'S WHAT!

So yes, I agree, there needs to be more! Monsters dont like being neglected, you know ;__; I think I tried to do a little TOO much with this community initially and got burned out and... got lazy, to be honest.

Anyhow, how would you all feel about moving the exchange aspect over to another community (monster_xchange)? It would be MUCH easier to moderate and organize, IMO. This community would still be used,(and hopefully less dead in the future ;_;) but would now be separate from the exchange. Having art posts, contests, AND exchanges in ONE community was damn confusing.

SO please fill out this poll:
Poll #1306390 Opionions please

Are you okay with the exchange moving communities?

Should there be an application to approve members (evaluate skill level) or should it be open to everyone?

How long should the period be in between exchanges (how long people have to finish their art)?

1 month
2 months
other (comment)

I'm thinking the first exchange would start in JANUARY since it's such short notice for December, and it's such a crazy/hectic month for people ANYWAY.

Okay, so yes, feedback PLZ.

And obviously, I'd need more moderators other than myself. Preferably people who have experience running these kinds of things in the past. SO if you'd be interested in modding the new comm, say so!

***sorry for any misspellings, I know I probably made a ton. x _ x;
